About Us:
WorldofShooters.com was created by a shooter for shooters to be the solution to what he saw as so many flawed "production/freelance" job sites. His name is Tim Baker and he has been shooting video professionally since 1989. He started out as a news/sports photojournalist and quickly progressed to production shooting. Mr. Baker started out in the ¾", 1", and even 2" media days and has seen a lot of people and technologies come and go, but one thing that has always stayed the same in this industry is the fact that a good shooter can always stay busy provided he can find gigs or the gigs can find him.
However, three major factors affect this process, the first being the staggering amount of productions and the varied types of those productions. The shear requirements on production companies to fill a full day of programming for all of the sources out there from cable, satellite, web, and broadcast are mind blowing when you really think about them. Then when you roll in event, marketing and sales, and corporate audiovisual gigs the possibilities really are endless for potential gigs.
The second factor affecting the industry is the mobile and transient nature of the business. When Mr. Baker first started in this business most productions were regional and more than likely local. Some travel could be expected, but that was the oddity in those days. Today's industry, more so than any other time in its history, is mobile. Producers are constantly in travel mode, but with all the growth in numbers and types of productions the budgets have shrunk to the point where producers rarely get to travel their go-to-guy or gal to do their shooting on the road.
And the final, but not the least affecting factor is technology. Technology in this industry will either make you or break you. You can now acquire in the field on so many different and varied cameras and tape and non-tape formats that just to keep up with it is almost a fulltime job. Mr. Baker reads every trade journal he can get his hands on each and every month and he still gets one or two huge "AhA" moments a month on some piece of gear or new something-or-the-other that he missed in the trades.
When you take the factors mentioned above as a whole what do they show you? They show you a mobile industry with huge opportunity, which is driven by specific technologies. Where the technology comes in is that most production companies and/or producers are gear specific...they are either an XDcam house or a Panasonic house...or tapeless and want everthing on harddrive...you get the picture. So when they come to town...they are looking for a specific gear package first and then a shooter with a specific skill set be it reality, eng, efp, etc.
So what does this bring us to? It brings us to solving the problem that all those other sites have...barriers to you getting the jobs you need and want. Most sites that Mr. Baker...and possibly you, as well...have gone to have various barriers. These barriers range from too high a cost, to no direct contact with the client, escrowed payments, no protection for non-paying clients, various levels of testing, or the biggest...taking a percentage of your invoice or marking you up so that it becomes cost prohibitive for you to get hired in the first place.
So what Mr. Baker has done with the creation of WorldofShooters.com is set the goal of no barriers to you getting the gigs you need. As you register and fill out your information it is instantly available to searching producers and industry people that need your services.
Your entire profile will be right there for them to see from your cell phone number to a contact email. They will even have a link to your website for demos and other information on you as a professional.
We require your address at registration, but it is not viewable by searchers. It is only used for geographical search parameters so that searchers can see how far you are away from the shoot location. That way they know whether you are a "local" or "travel day" and "per diem" hire.
They will then be able to "bin" you with others in your area and contact you direct and make their own determination from that point. You have direct and total control of whether you get hired or not...so make a sharp impression.
We are simply facilitators. We put your information out there for the search and then step out of the way. You talk direct and you bill direct. All we do is charge a small enough yearly fee that a fraction of one day rate will more than cover your cost of listing with us and we can maintain safe and trustworthy servers to store your information on and do regular upgrades to service as you...the shooters...request them.
Thanks for registering and making WorldofShooters.com what Mr. Baker and we know it can be. Drop us a note at info@juggernautmedia.com as it works for you or to let us know what you would like to see changed or added to the site.
Sincerely,
WorldofShooters.com
